Dan Andrews

"I strive to make each painting an emotional statement about a particular animal's nature," says wildlife artist, Dan Andrews. This commitment requires not only a detailed understanding of each bird or animal's physical characteristics, but their habits and habitats as well. As a native Coloradoan, Dan has learned about Rocky Mountain wildlife by spending many hours in the field. “Many of my paintings begin with a particular rock formation, unique tree stump or other small detail of nature that I find fascinating and exciting to depict in my art. Then I will add an animal or bird that fits the setting.”

Recent field trips to Denali National Park, Yellowstone National Park, Bosque De Apache Wildlife Refuge, Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and numerous locations in Colorado are very important in the generation of new ideas for Dan's paintings.

Dan graduated from Colorado Institute of Art, and has attended several workshops conducted by Robert Bateman, Carl Brenders and other prominent wildlife artists. Dan has exhibited his work at many national and local art shows.

Recent awards include: Colorado Ducks Unlimited Sponsor Artist of the Year; winning artist for the Kansas Wildlife Art Series, 2nd place at the Foundation for North American Wild Sheep Annual Art Competition; winning artist for the Colorado Duck Stamp Contest and Wyoming Conservation Stamp Contest; chosen as Artist of the Quarter by the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.

Dan hopes that his paintings will encourage others to help preserve all wildlife and their habitat for future generations. Dan’s painting of Bighorn Sheep on Whiskey Mountain was published by RMBS as a limited edition print and was sold through the National Bighorn Sheep Center in Dubois, Wyoming to raise funds for sheep preservation.
